What makes your glitter biodegradable?

Our biodegradable glitter is made from precision-cut flakes of a plant-derived film: primarily corn starch, with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and a thin polyurethane layer for sparkle, finished with a cosmetic-grade pigment. Per our supplier's Safety Data Sheet, the film is 97% soluble in water at room temperature.

What's the difference between biodegradable glitter and mica glitter?

Biodegradable glitter is cut from a plant-cellulose film that dissolves in water and breaks down over time, so it is used as a topper, sprinkled on the surface of finished soap and crafts. Mica glitter is mineral based and does not dissolve, so it can go into the batter and keeps its sparkle through cure. The approved-use row on each product page lists the FDA-approved uses for that glitter: many mica glitters are approved for bath bombs and general body use, while the biodegradable glitters are not approved for eye, lip, bath bomb or body products.

Is glitter safe to use in soap?

Check the approved-use row on the product page before adding any glitter to a project; it lists the FDA-approved uses for that glitter. In soap, use the type the way the answer above describes: biodegradable glitter on the surface, mica glitter in the batter.

Where is your biodegradable glitter made?

We source all of our biodegradable glitter exclusively from manufacturers in the United States. This lets us ensure high purity, consistent quality control, and compliance with cosmetic and environmental safety standards, while also reducing the carbon footprint associated with overseas sourcing.
