Sodium Lactate

If your soap bars feel a little soft when they come out of the mold, sodium lactate might be exactly what you're missing. This liquid salt is produced from natural sugars like beets and corn, and it works quietly but powerfully in the background of a good recipe. Stir it in and you'll notice a firmer, longer-lasting bar that holds up beautifully in the shower, plus unmolding gets a whole lot less stressful. It's one of those small additions that makes a big difference, which is exactly why we use it in every soap we make here at Nurture.

The recommended usage rate of sodium lactate for cold process soaps is 1 teaspoon per pound of oils. Sodium lactate is also used in hot process soaps toward the end of the cook to create a more fluid soap that is easier to get into the soap mold.

When using sodium lactate, add it to your cooled lye water.
