Biodegradable Glitter Compliance Declaration

Biodegradable Glitter Compliance Declaration

At Nurture Handmade, we’re proud to offer a truly eco-conscious alternative to conventional glitter. Our biodegradable glitter is designed with both performance and environmental responsibility in mind, helping to reduce microplastic pollution without compromising on sparkle.

Made in the USA with Premium Standards

We source all of our biodegradable glitter exclusively from manufacturers in the United States. This allows us to ensure the highest levels of purity, quality control, and compliance with cosmetic and environmental safety standards. By working only with trusted domestic suppliers, we maintain consistent product integrity and reduce the carbon footprint associated with overseas sourcing.

What Makes It Biodegradable?

Our glitter is made from precision-cut flakes of a plant-derived film: primarily corn starch, with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and a thin polyurethane layer for sparkle, finished with a cosmetic-grade pigment. This film replaces the polyester (PET) film used in traditional glitter.

Each glitter flake is:

  • Base: Made from corn starch and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)
  • Reflective Layer: Coated with a thin layer of polyurethane for sparkle
  • Color: Finished with a cosmetic-grade pigment for vibrant, safe color

This multi-layer construction is engineered for safety and performance. Unlike a PET-film glitter, our glitter's film is majority corn starch; per our supplier's Safety Data Sheet, it is 97% soluble in water at room temperature.

Eco-Friendly and Ethically Made

Our biodegradable glitter is:

  • Made from a corn starch film rather than the polyester (PET) film used in conventional glitter
  • Colored with cosmetic-grade pigment; each glitter's approved-use row lists where it may be used
  • Made using plant-derived, renewable materials
  • Produced in the USA for verified quality and sustainability

Compliance and Sustainability Commitment

Nurture Handmade’s biodegradable glitter is an environmentally responsible choice developed to address the growing concern over glitter-related microplastic pollution.
