PureScent™ harmonizes high-end fragrance performance with an elevated safety profile, proving that strong, long-lasting scents do not require a compromise on health. This clean-crafted technology rigorously excludes known harmful toxins - such as carcinogens, mutagens, and reproductive hazards - while prioritizing environmental sustainability with a formula that is safe for marine life. Beyond safety, PureScent™ is engineered as a versatile workhorse for artisans, ensuring stability and reliability in both cold process, candle, and melt-and-pour soap applications.
Our No-Compromise Philosophy
- Uncompromising Potency: Unlike many natural or clean alternatives that fade quickly, PureScent™ uses an upgraded formula to deliver the robust, high-end performance and longevity that artisans require.
- Elevated Safety Profile: PureScent™ goes beyond standard industry regulations, voluntarily excluding a wider range of potentially harmful chemicals to ensure a standard of safety that exceeds basic compliance.
Clean-Crafted
The most significant aspect of this technology is what is left out of the formula. PureScents are rigorously formulated to exclude specific categories of toxins:
- Carcinogens: Substances known to cause cancer.
- Mutagens: Agents known to change genetic material (DNA).
- Reproductive Toxins: Chemicals known to interfere with reproductive health.
- Organ Toxins: Substances known to cause adverse effects or disease in specific organs.
Environmental Impact
- Marine Life Safety: Vital for any wash-off application, our formula is non-toxic to marine life, ensuring that your daily routine leaves no harmful footprint on aquatic ecosystems.
Versatility for Makers
PureScent™ removes the guesswork from your supply shelf. We explicitly formulate our scents to have high usage allowances in both IFRA Category 9 (Soap) and Category 12 (Candles). This means you no longer need to check if a candle oil is skin-safe or if a soap scent will throw scent in wax. Whether you are crafting home fragrance or bath and body care, you can reach for the same bottle with total confidence.
Cold Process Soap: We understand that cold process soap is the ultimate test for a fragrance. That is why we rigorously test every scent in-house and provide detailed performance notes. You can see exactly how the fragrance behaved for us - including data on acceleration, discoloration, and scent retention over time. While we always encourage your own small-batch testing, our transparent reports give you a reliable baseline to formulate with confidence.
Melt and Pour Soap: For artisans working with glycerin bases, stability is key. Our formulas are engineered to integrate seamlessly without clouding or separating, ensuring that both the clarity of the base and the integrity of the scent are preserved in the final bar.
Candles and Wax: Formulated for high-performance combustion, ensuring a clean burn while maximizing scent throw in both soy and paraffin wax blends.
Nature Meets Science
It’s well known that essential oils tend to fade and produce a much lighter scent profile in soap, wax, and many other applications. However, the benefits of essential oils are unmatched. To achieve both performance and authenticity, we thoughtfully blend natural essential oils and ingredients with safe, synthetic fragrance components. This approach allows us to create scents that remain strong, long-lasting, and consistent across all types of applications.
While it is always our priority to eliminate health hazards from our fragrances, we also recognize that many essential oils contain components often labeled as “suspected” health hazards. We took a deep dive into the science behind these concerns, carefully reviewing the data surrounding essential oils and their components.
What we found is that the amounts of these suspected substances naturally present in essential oils are typically hundreds - and often thousands - of times lower than levels shown to cause harm.
This led us to an important decision: either remove these components by eliminating natural essential oils entirely, or continue using them while focusing on meaningful safety measures, such as environmental responsibility. We chose the latter. Our goal is to create fragrances that remain natural, are safe for waterways and marine life, and deliver exceptional performance and enjoyment in every use.
Pictograms
OSHA pictograms are used to quickly communicate chemical hazards in a clear, standardized, and easily recognizable way, helping workers and consumers identify potential risks at a glance and handle materials safely. Below, we break down the relevant pictograms and their meanings:
The Health Hazard pictogram - depicted as a black silhouette of a person with a starburst on the chest inside a red diamond - indicates that a chemical is known or suspected to pose long-term (chronic) health risks.
The environmental hazard pictogram - featuring a dead fish and a dead tree - indicates that a substance is hazardous to the environment, particularly aquatic life, and may cause long-term environmental damage.
The exclamation point pictogram indicates that a substance may cause mild to moderate health effects, such as skin or eye irritation, allergic skin reactions, respiratory irritation, or temporary drowsiness or dizziness.
Suspected Health Hazards and Essential Oils
As you can see, avoiding all suspected health hazards would mean giving up many of the amazing benefits that natural essential oils offer. For this reason, we have removed all known toxins from our formulations. Any ingredients that trigger this pictogram are naturally occurring components found in essential oils and other natural ingredients.
To determine health hazards, refer to Section 2 of the SDS, titled “Hazards Identification.”
The hazard code in question is H361. Next, refer to Section 3 of the SDS, titled “Composition on Ingredients.”
We can see that the ingredients triggering this warning are eucalyptus essential oil and ylang ylang essential oil! This pictogram warning will only be triggered by natural essential oils and ingredients.
Because of potential allergic reactions and other potential mild to moderate health effects, the ⚠️ pictogram is almost always present in natural and fragrance oils.
Our Focus On Environmental Safety
Pictograms You Won’t See on Our PureScent Oils:
When we use fragranced products such as soap, shampoo, or laundry detergent, those ingredients are washed down the drain and enter wastewater systems. Some fragrance ingredients - particularly synthetic ones - are not fully removed during treatment and can end up in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
Once in the environment, these substances may harm aquatic life by disrupting immune systems, interfering with reproduction, or affecting the early development of marine organisms. Because many fragrance chemicals break down slowly, they can accumulate in water and living organisms, move through the food chain, and cause long-term environmental effects. Certain fragrance compounds can also contribute to air pollution, which indirectly impacts marine ecosystems.
For these reasons, understanding how fragrance ingredients interact with the environment is an important part of evaluating product safety and sustainability. When choosing PureScent Fragrance Oils, you can be confident that you’re crafting products that are safer for waterways, kinder to the planet, and gentle on skin.
Information and Transparency
As we develop our PureScent™ fragrance line, transparency is at the heart of everything we do. Complete safety and ingredient details are clearly outlined in each SDS, with hazard information listed in Section 2, Hazards Identification, and ingredient composition provided in Section 3, Composition on Ingredients.
Other documentation:
- IFRA - International Fragrance Association - Provides safety guidelines for using fragrance ingredients in consumer products, detailing maximum safe concentrations for different categories like soaps, lotions, or candles to prevent skin irritation, allergies, and health issues.
- Allergen - European Union Allergen Statement - Used to identify, regulate, and disclose fragrance ingredients that are known to cause allergic reactions in some individuals.
- CoA - Certificate of Analysis - Used to verify the quality, identity, and consistency of a product or ingredient, confirming that the material meets established specifications and standards.
- TDS - Technical Data Sheet - Provides key product data points, including our no animal testing, vegan, phthalate-free, and no contaminants statements.
