PureScent Exclusion List
These are the ingredients and ingredient groups left out of every PureScent and PureScent+ fragrance oil. We check each oil's safety data sheet against this list before it carries the PureScent name.
Never used in PureScent
| Excluded | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phthalates | Diethyl phthalate (DEP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) | Linked to hormone disruption. Every fragrance oil we sell is phthalate-free, PureScent or not. |

| Restricted fragrance materials | Lyral (HICC), musk ketone, methyl salicylate, Lilial | Lyral is prohibited by IFRA and banned in EU cosmetics; musk ketone is a suspected carcinogen; methyl salicylate is restricted by IFRA; Lilial is classified by the EU as toxic to reproduction and banned in EU cosmetics. |
| Animal-derived ingredients | Ambergris, castoreum, civet, musk from animals | Every fragrance oil we sell is vegan and never tested on animals. |

| Excluded | What it means |
|---|---|
| Toxic or fatal acute toxins | Ingredients classified as toxic or fatal after a single exposure (GHS acute toxicity Category 1-3: H300, H301, H310, H311, H330, H331). |

1% is the concentration at which the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) starts counting these ingredients toward a mixture's classification.
Also covered by IFRA
Every PureScent oil comes with an IFRA certificate, confirming it follows the International Fragrance Association's standards. IFRA prohibits a long list of fragrance materials outright and caps the amount of others, so those materials are excluded or limited in every oil as well.
Suspected ingredients are handled separately: see the PureScent Suspected Ingredient List.
