Color Testing Notes
INCI: FD&C Blue No. 1 Dye
FDA Approved Use
- Eyes: Yes
- Lips: Yes
- Bath Bombs: Yes
- General Body Use: Yes
Use Rate
- CP Soap: Dyes are not recommended for CP soap. They tend to morph, migrate into other colors, and bleed.
- MP Soap: Dyes are absolutely wonderful for use in melt & pour and liquid soaps. Dilute the dye with a bit of water then add to your soap.
- Bath Bombs: Dyes are best when bloomed before adding to your bath bomb recipe. Blooming means to dissolve a bit of dye in water first, then add to the baking soda that goes in your bath bomb mix.
Use Notes
The powder in the jar may look different than you expect! Dyes need to be added to water to turn into their true color.
Dyes are very concentrated! A little goes a very long way. Dye can stain hands, counter tops, or anything it touches. Wear gloves and protect all work surfaces.

Perfect
Loved it spot on
I used this and 2 other colors to create concentrated color powders for bath bombs and they turned out perfectly!! I was able to create several different colors and only required a tiny bit of dye to make a large amount of color powder. I will but it again when needed 100% and I highly recommend it for vibrant bath bomb colors!

I am happy with the quality, the color bloomed beautifully in my bath bombs. Blended 1on1 ratio with Red 28 and the purple I got is very vibrant. On the photo lavender scented bath bombs. Color was achived as described above. In the bath tub gave gentle soft purple shade. Might need to add tiny bit more for tub water to be of more bright color. With poly80 not single stain in the tub. Great product!
Nurture soap is my go to colorant vendor, and trust me I’ve tried them all. Consistent, high quality pigments every single time. Love them!
Was my 1st time using this dye and didn't disappoint. Finally got the true blue bath safe color I was looking for
What a great product, and great customer service. I had a question about a item I bought from them. So I sent a email and had a response within 24 hrs. Unbelievable customer service.
Gives bath water the perfect color. I loved it.
Most definitely is very blue! So much so that as I mixed it to make a purple it over powered the red. It dried a deep dark purple so I was ok with it. Just FYI for anyone making your own purple this blue is intense lol. Beautiful but intense. The only thing I would say that could use some thought is the possibility of a shaker top.
While all of the dyes I have used have been extremely pigmented, this blue is even more so! If I want to mix colors, I have to make sure I use less blue than the other colors to get the color I want. In my bath bombs, the blue looks more like the color in the kaleidoscope picture (the first picture) and less like the purple-ish blue in the cold process soap picture.
This is a mixed review/question??? I was attempting a purple bloom, 1:1 with Blue #1 and Red #40, even confirmed on the color calculator...and, well, surprise...teal?? Anyone else ever have this issue? I do love all the colors, so beautiful, just not quite what I was wanting.
I have been making bath bombs for over a year now and by far has this been my favorite blue!! So vibrant, creates streaks of waters that are beyond amazing! Definitely buy, and bloom these dyes! You won’t regret it!

I combined this blue and red to make a purple color for my lavender bath bombs and it came out as a beautiful purple color! (the dark purple). I followed the directions and bloomed with hot water. But after about two weeks the bombs started to discolor and turn colorless. I have never been disappointed from anything from nurture soap so I was really surprised :(
Love the color. I’m still playing around with the rainbow embeds, so I don’t have it down quite right. But I obviously need to use even less of the blue next time! The color is very powerful and you need even less than you think.
I really, really love this dye, but it is definitely a case of "less is more." Which is fantastic for my bath bombs. I used this and my husband walked into the bathroom after using a bomb with it and said, "You should call this one blue jell-o!" I used less than a 1/4th teaspoon for a batch of six bath bombs (7 ounces each). I highly recommend it!
I use this in my bath bombs and it is so bright and beautiful!!! I absolutely love it!! The picture I've shared is when I bloomed it. 😍😍
WOW!! I get Aqua to Navy blue with this one... Gorgeous... Latest is a cocoa butter dip for a bathbomb & the blue ring in Bath Shot. Spectacular!! Added a bit of Purple Vibrance to get darker hue for the butter...
This is the best colorant if you are looking for blues. I used these for bath bombs and get the absolute best results. A little truly goes a long way!
Do you need to use poly 80 for this
No, with dyes you don't have to since they are water soluble!
