Soap Molds

Basic Molds have a wooden box to support the liner, with holes in the bottom to help push the liner out. They don't have a lid, so if you gel your soap or want to prevent ash, you'll need to cover it yourself (cling wrap works well).

Premium Molds also have a wooden support box, but add a clear lid that slides into grooves in the mold, creating a seal between the soap and outside air. That seal is the main way ash is prevented, and it lets you watch the gel phase without losing heat. Premium molds also have removable sides for easy liner removal.

Handle Molds come in both basic and premium styles and are built for the easiest possible unmolding. The liner's lip wraps around the wood mold to keep it clean, and handles let you lift the liner straight out. Because of this, the wood box's sides aren't removable (premium style) and there are no bottom holes (basic style), so you simply lift by the handles instead.

Which to choose? If you don't gel or cover your soap, basic molds are the simplest option. If you gel your soap and want more convenience, premium is ideal. Handle molds offer the same ease of use in either style.

How you remove the liner depends on your mold style: basic molds push out through the holes in the bottom of the box, premium molds slide their sides off for easy liner removal, and handle molds just lift straight out by the handles.

If a bar is being stubborn, a short 10 to 15 minute stint in the freezer can help it release. Wash liners with warm soapy water and avoid abrasive scrubbers that can wear down the silicone over time.

Mold capacity is listed on each product page in ounces and pounds of oils, and the range runs from small single-loaf molds up to large double and triple frames. The number of bars you get also depends on how thick you cut them. Check the listed capacity and dimensions before scaling your recipe.

If using a wood mold without a silicone liner, it must be lined with something like parchment paper first so the soap does not stick to the wood. For handle molds, just make sure the liner is seated properly in the box before pouring. Basic and premium molds don't need any other pre-pour prep, but if you plan to gel your soap or prevent ash, keep in mind that basic molds will need to be covered with cling wrap right after pouring, since they have no lid; premium molds handle this automatically once you slide the lid into place.
